Would you love a vacation in the quiet of the country, but also one by the ocean? Our farmhouse is located in Lyman for your “Country vacation” yet approx. 20 minutes away lies Kennebunk Beach. We will leave a Kennebunk Beach pass for you to utilize while at “the farm”.
Built in 1845 by a father for his two sons, our stately brick farmhouse emits a permanence and amazing workmanship. As the duplex home was built for two families, we have kept the same layout. We are opening the “back house” to guests, so others may enjoy the tranquility, peace and beauty of the farm setting. Our one ‘year round’ renter in the “front house” has been with us for ten years.
In the summer months, chances are, you will see my brother, Mark, out in the fields “haying”, Black Angus cows grazing in the pasture and young calves frolicking. We have a gliding lawn swing which is almost always a cool place to sit during the summer months, as it is on the north side of the house. Grill your dinner, eat at the picnic table, play yard games and enjoy the quiet of “a day at the farm”. At the end of the day, nature often provides an amazing sunset! Due to the location of the farm, if you get up early enough, you may catch a sunrise that will take your breath away!
As you enter the stately front door, a curving staircase will be directly in front of you; the living room to the right and the eat-in kitchen to the left and the ‘game room’ straight ahead. A three quarter bath rounds out the first floor. There are two stairways to the upper floor; the ‘grand” stairway in front and the old fashioned tight, steep, semi-circle stairway in the back (my favorite).
Upstairs, there are three bedrooms. As you see in the photos, there are two large bedrooms and one smaller one, (the bunk room). From “Dad’s Room” and the “Bunk Room” you can see the barn and fields; from “Mom’s Room” you can see the “back 40”. There is a large full bath upstairs. *One notation, in order to get to the “Bunk Room” you have to go up the spiral staircase (or go through “Dad’s Room”).
Outside: The space dedicated solely for your use will be behind the farmhouse and side of the garage as well as all the area leading up to the front entry. You may also utilize the tarred driveway and the children can ride their bikes, trikes, scooters ‘around the circle’ We have outside kids toys, wagon, misc. ride on toys, for the “littles”.
For the beach, we have beach toys for the kids, tote bags, beach towels and beach chairs as well as a larger cooler for your use. Please let us know if there is something which you need and chances are we can get it there for you.
