Recently renovated and redecorated, Briar Lodge provides a unique shore front opportunity with a rich history. With its private location adjacent to the southern end of the Shore Path, the echoes of the Gilded Age of Bar Harbor's cottage era reverberates in the surrounding landscape. Once the servant quarters to The Briars Estate, built by J. Montgomery Sears, Briar Lodge is an original William Ralph Emerson design, with an interesting "upside down" layout. The main estate, torn down in 1968, was host for two summers to the John D. Rockefeller family in 1908 and 1909 and the birthplace of Nelson Rockefeller in 1908. The home's second owners, Ned and Evelyn Walsh McLean, were the proud owners of the Hope Diamond!
